Summary

We are developing an eLearning tool to improve clinical reasoning skills in medical students. The eLearning tool will provide patient simulations for medical students, to help them develop their clinical reasoning skills by prompting students to reflect on their thinking throughout a consultation. We will evaluate the effectiveness of the tool using a feasibility randomised controlled trial, where we will compare students who receive the tool to those who don’t. We will explore how the tool helps students to learn using a qualitative think aloud interview approach.

This study will provide future doctors with a resource to help them learn how to make appropriate clinical decisions using an analytical approach.
